3 Reasons Why Everyone Should Read Before Bed

We all know how exciting it is to open a new book and be immersed in a completely new reality, full of unique adventures and perspectives. But we also know how hard it is to try to read a few pages of a book at the end of a very long day. It is so much easier to just turn on the TV and slowly space out until we drift off. But the benefits of reading before going to sleep are so many, it might be time for us to reconsider our habits.

Better Dreams

If you are tired of having boring dreams about mundane things that happen in your daily life, reading before bed can definitely help. When you sleep, your brain goes through all the information you have processed during the day. And this includes the book you were reading before going to bed. So when you finally get to REM sleep, your dreams will include a mix of things that happened in your life that day and things you read.

Increased Knowledge

It’s simple as that: reading an hour a day before bedtime has the power to increase your intelligence. Basically, reading is like a workout for your brain, which means your memory gets stronger with every book you read. Besides, it preserves your cognitive function as you get older and increases your concentration.

More Empathy

When you read a book, you see the world through the characters’ eyes. You learn what they are going through and how they feel, experiencing their emotions firsthand. Reading often will give you the ability to apply the same empathy in real life. So if you see someone who is sad or hurt, for example, you will feel more empathetic and willing to help them out.
