The most important tip of all is the habit of planning ahead. Plan your recipes for the days ahead and keep them in mind when you fill your basket, so you only buy the required ingredients. If you have planned beforehand, you would have had the time to come up with healthy options so your pantry will only be full of nutritious foods and ingredients which can be used to make healthy food only.

Another tip is to try cutting your costs with coupons. Many stores even source discount vouchers and customer loyalty cards which can have a significant impact on your bill. Even low value coupons can save a lot of money at the end of the month. Lastly, try buying store brands as much as possible instead of national or international brands. Store brands are available at 20% or 30% of the prices of some major brands, despite the taste and ingredients being similar to a large extent.
