Laughter Is So Important

Everyone has heard the age-old cliche, “Laughter is the best medicine.” And as preachy as it sounds, this phrase could not be more true! Laughter has immense health benefits and there are absolutely no downsides to laughing. In fact, laughter is one of the best feelings in the world. Everyone can agree that nothing matches the feeling of uncontrollable laughter when your stomach hurts and you can not breathe.

When you laugh, your body releases a flood of endorphins. So, what are endorphins? They are the body’s natural pain killers, which ease any aches or chronic pains in your body. Consequently, this rush of endorphins makes you feel more relaxed. When you laugh, you also activate the T-cells in your body, which are specialized immune system cells that help fight off infections. Which is why laughter indeed is the best medicine!

Laughing also helps reduce stress, which is something that impacts anyone and everyone! It reduces the effectiveness of your work and makes you feel overall worked up. When you laugh, the number of stress hormones in your body falls immensely and this leads to improved immune system performance. Simultaneously, the anxiety levels in your body also tremendously decrease, making it easier for you to work!

Laughter also aids in reducing your blood pressure. When you are under a lot of stress, your heart tends to pump more vigorously to increase the supply of oxygen to your organs. This extra pressure on the heart is extremely detrimental to one’s health, if it persists for long periods. Laughing helps in reducing this burden on your heart, which reduces the risk of a stroke or, even, a heart attack! It is absolutely crucial that everyone gets their daily dose of laughter. It is almost as if, instead of an apple a day keeps the doctor away, it is: a laugh (or multiple!) a day keeps the doctor away!
