National Candy Cane Day
Every year in the United States, on the day after Christmas, December 26th, we observe National Candy Cane Day! We continue the sweet celebrations even after Christmas is over.
There are a variety of stories behind the origin of the candy cane, however the first recipe was published in 1844, and they have been hung on Christmas trees since 1882. However, the red and white combination only came out for the first time in 1990.
The average candy is 5 inches tall, and although the traditional variety is peppermint, they also come in a wide variety of flavors. The Guinness World Record for the longest candy cane measures 51 feet long.
Wondering how to observe? Simply snap a festive pic of yourself with a candy cane, and post it using the hashtag #NationalCandyCaneDay on social media.
