Recipe: Charcoal Ice Cream

Somehow charcoal flavored food has become a thing. Who would have thought? And you don’t even need to pay a ton of money for a designer scoop at a hipster ice cream shop, here’s how to make it yourself at home.

This recipe makes 4 servings.

  1. Take a large freezer bag and put dry ice inside. Close the bag and leave a small opening to avoid gas from entering.

  2. Take a kitchen towel and cover the bag.  Delicately use a kitchen mallet to crush the ice and turn it into a powder.

  3. Take a large mixing bowl and combine 2 cups of heavy cream, 2 cups of half&half,1/2 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of active charcoal (make sure not to put too much, could get dangerous), 2 tablespoons of mint extract, and 4 tablespoons of black food coloring.

  4. Whisk everything together until it appears to be frothy

  5. Add more dry ice into the ice cream mixture and whisk everything together, then slowly add more dry ice until you see a solid consistency.

  6. Wait for the dry ice to evaporate before eating.

  7. Enjoy!
